Lasix water pills online

Students often take lasix water pills online camera-phone photos of slides during an instructor's presentation. But the question has lingered whether this practice helps students remember information.A first-of-its-kind study answers the question, finding that taking pictures of PowerPoint slides during an online presentation helped students remember the slide content better than for slides they did not photograph. The study was recently published in the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and lasix water pills online Cognition by UC Riverside psychology professor and researcher Annie Ditta. In both experiments of the two-part study, students were asked not to study the photographs before testing. Does the act of taking the photograph itself help students better remember the content?.

Other experiments have considered whether people retain information lasix water pills online better when they photograph information. In those studies, many of them conducted in museum galleries to mimic photo-taking outside of a classroom, photograph-taking hindered peoples' ability to remember the photographed content when they were later tested. But Ditta's is the first study that specifically considered the lecture slides students photograph as part of their academic studies. Not only did students remember content better when they photographed it, but students also better remembered complementary spoken-word-only content."Given that the floodgates have already opened regarding the use of technology in the classroom -- particularly with the proliferation of online courses offered due lasix water pills online to hypertension medications -- it is wise to study how best to support learners' use of technology in the classroom so we can understand how best to support their learning with these devices," Ditta and her fellow researchers concluded. advertisement In the first experiment, 132 university students were asked to take photographs of alternate PowerPoint slides on their computer screens.

Half took photos of the even-numbered lasix water pills online slides. Half took photos of the odd-numbered slides. The presentations they were shown involved subjects with which it was assumed the mostly psychology students would have little familiarity -- printmaking, fencing, and cheese-making.For the 60-question fill-in-the-blank test that followed, students were asked to recall information from both the slides and the spoken-word-only portion of the teacher's presentation. The first experiment found participants remembered the slide information significantly better when they took a photo than when they did not. However, there was no difference in memory for the spoken-word-only information. In the second experiment, half of the 108 study participants lasix water pills online could photograph their choice of slides, as long as they photographed about half.

The other half of participants were "yoked" to the first set of students, instructed to photograph only the slides the others chose to photograph.Whether the students chose the slides they photographed, or whether they were instructed to mimic others' photo-taking, both sets of students remembered slide-photographed content better than non-photographed content. This time, however, they also experienced a benefit for remembering spoken-word-only content lasix water pills online. advertisement "Overall, we found evidence for a photo-taking benefit in an online lecture," Ditta and her colleagues wrote. "The results were surprising, lasix water pills online given that most prior research has found a photo-taking impairment effect."Additionally, the researchers wrote.

"Students who take photos in lectures could enjoy the benefits of taking photos for on-slide information without much cost to information that is only said."Before both experiments, students expressed a belief that photo-taking would help them remember slide information -- but they felt it would not help them remember spoken-word-only content. "They were lasix water pills online wrong about that," Ditta said regarding the spoken content findings of the second experiment. The study did not determine why the photo-taking helps. Ditta said that will be addressed in a planned follow-up study. But Ditta and her colleagues surmised regarding the lasix water pills online first experiment's findings.

"It's possible that the predictability of taking a photo every other slide enabled participants to pay more attention to the upcoming to-be-photographed slides in experiment 1 ."Previous experiments found note-taking was superior to photo-taking in terms of remembering content. Ditta's study did not compare note-taking with photo-taking. She said the interaction of note-taking and photo-taking will also be the subject of a future study. In addition to Ditta, who is an assistant professor of psychology, lasix water pills online study authors for the article, "What happens to memory for lecture content when students take photos of the lecture slides?. " included Julia Soares, a faculty member at Mississippi State University and Benjamin Storm, a faculty member at UC Santa Cruz.A study by researchers at the University of Notre Dame is painting a clearer picture of our tendency to hit the snooze button -- and if you delayed getting out of bed this morning, you're certainly not alone. The study, published in the journal SLEEP, found that 57 percent of the participants were habitual snoozers.

While scientists and medical professionals have long advised against it, the act of snoozing -- how often and why we do it -- remains virtually unstudied."Most of what we know about snoozing is taken from data on sleep, stress or related behaviors," said Stephen Mattingly, lead author of the study who conducted the research while a postdoctoral researcher at Notre lasix water pills online Dame, with Aaron Striegel, professor of computer science and engineering at Notre Dame. "Alarm clocks, smartphones, they all have snooze buttons. The medical establishment is generally against the lasix water pills online use of snoozing, but when we went to look at what hard data existed, there was none. We now have the data to prove just how common it is -- and there is still so much that we do not know."The Centers for Disease Control estimates 1 in 3 Americans do not get enough sleep.

The findings of the study suggest snoozing may be how some battle their exhaustion."So many people are snoozing because so many people are chronically tired," Mattingly lasix water pills online said. "If only 1 in 3 people are sleeping adequately, that means a lot of us are turning to other means to manage fatigue."The study surveyed 450 adults with full-time, salaried employment. Participants completed daily surveys lasix water pills online and a questionnaire. Data collected from wearable devices measured sleep duration and heart rate.

According to the study, females were 50 percent more likely to snooze than males. Snoozers tracked fewer steps than other respondents and experienced more disturbances lasix water pills online during sleeping hours. advertisement "These are people who have been in the workforce for years, white-collar workers with advanced degrees -- and 57 percent of them are snoozing," Mattingly said. "Critically, these statistics are only representative of a small population that lasix water pills online is likely to be in the best position with respect to sleep habits.

We have no idea about various age groups such as teenagers, lower-income households or any of the populations that are historically more sleep deprived than the respondents of this study. So, the odds are this is probably a conservative estimate of the wider population."The study also lasix water pills online considered each respondent's chronotype, or when they prefer to go to bed and wake up. Night owls were found to snooze more and were found to be more tired in general. "In the 9 to 5 world," Mattingly said, "night owls are losing.""Part of the focus of this study was to demystify what lasix water pills online is happening with snoozing," Striegel said.

"Is it really worse than waking up to an alarm on the first ring -- is it that much different?. The recommendation against an alarm is well-founded, but as far as we can tell from the physiology and our data, waking to one alarm or hitting the snooze lasix water pills online button and waking to two or three alarms doesn't make much of a difference. If you need an alarm because you're sleep-deprived -- that's the issue."When respondents woke naturally, without the aid of an alarm, they slept longer and consumed less caffeine. Snoozers and non-snoozers are getting the same amount of sleep.

Snoozers aren't taking more naps and they do not report feeling tired more often."When we are able to sleep as long as we want," Mattingly said, "the body experiences a stress response right before waking lasix water pills online. That physiological response contributes to an individual feeling alert when they wake up."Disrupting natural sleep cycles with an alarm can lead to sleep inertia -- the feeling of being tired or groggy. "When you wake up from a REM sleep state," said Mattingly, lasix water pills online "your brain is most of the way to being fully awake. Hormone levels circulating at that stage are going to be different than when you're in a deep sleep." advertisement Waking up to an alarm is sort of like a double whammy, bypassing the natural stress response needed to feel alert and waking you up with brain chemistry that's out of whack. Both Striegel and Mattingly say more research is needed to understand any potential negative health impacts of snoozing, and Mattingly emphasized that the best advice is for everyone to sleep as much as their body needs.Still, snoozing may have its benefits."If you snooze and you're more alert when you get behind the wheel to go to work, that might be a benefit and a useful one," he said.

"If it reduces dependence on caffeine, that's another lasix water pills online. It's not uniformly bad -- similar to stress. Some stress is good -- that's why we lasix water pills online have the fight or flight response. There are times and places for it.

There may be cases when hitting the snooze button is actually beneficial.".

Health care access issues have entresto and lasix long posed challenges for health officials in Mississippi, a rural state with the nation’s largest percentage of African Americans. For decades, Mississippi has consistently ranked at the bottom among states in many health outcome categories. Although the hypertension medications lasix exacerbated these challenges, by leveraging its Office of Preventive Health and Health Equity and several federal and state programs, Mississippi was able to achieve real wins, making it a top state for Black and white parity for hypertension medications vaccination and for the percentage of the Black community that has received at least one treatment dose. The state health department’s actions included conducting a hypertension medications vaccination confidence survey. Leveraging a Health Resources and Services Administration entresto and lasix portal, where providers could bill the agency for administering hypertension medications tests, treatment and treatments to uninsured patients. And establishing a hypertension medications Centers of Excellence program that incentivized hospitals and clinics to provide treatments and treatment to the general public and address vaccination disparities in their communities. In addition, the department took advantage of a federal hypertension medications Community Vaccination Program to cover the costs for local vaccination events.Setting up for SuccessState public health officials say one decision made years before the lasix helped shape vaccination outreach efforts in Mississippi, where African Americans make up 38% of the population entresto and lasix.

In the years preceding the hypertension medications lasix, officials with the Mississippi State Department of Health reconstituted its Health Equity Division by making it an Office of Preventive Health and Health Equity (OPHHE). The office has its own funding and a director who reports directly to the state health officer. The office’s entresto and lasix mission is “reducing inequalities and disparities in health status based on race, ethnicity, and linguistic ability in order to improve the quality of health for all the state’s residents.”Early in the lasix, Mississippi elevated its health equity office to a hypertension medications command post, one of the pillars of the state’s hypertension medications response. As such, the office had its own stockpile of resources, including personal-protective equipment, tests and, later, treatments. This decision was driven, in part, by the high mortality rates among African Americans seen at the start of the lasix in spring 2020.“When we first got our mortality statistics, almost 70% of the deaths were in the Black community,” says Thomas Dobbs, MD, MPH, the state’s entresto and lasix health officer, recalling the widespread misinformation about the communicability of the disease. One falsehood was that African Americans were immune to the lasix.

€œOnce we entresto and lasix realized that, we were really alarmed.” Thomas Dobbs, MD, MPHCredit. MDOHWhen the hypertension medications treatment became available to the public in late 2020, the Mississippi State Department of Health, the OPHHE, and the Mississippi Community Engagement Alliance Against hypertension medications Disparities, also known as the CEAL Team, conducted a hypertension medications vaccination confidence survey, with a concerted push to reach communities of color, lower-income and rural communities. There were more than 11,000 completed responses from all of Mississippi’s 82 counties. The study found that 73.2% of all Mississippians intended to take the entresto and lasix hypertension medications treatment. However, only 56.3% of Black Mississippians said they would be vaccinated, the lowest rate of all racial groups included in the survey. In the 18 counties that entresto and lasix make up the Mississippi Delta, which has some of the highest levels of poverty in the U.S., 26.7% of African American residents said they were undecided about whether they would get vaccinated.Victor Sutton, PhD, director of the Mississippi health department’s Office of Preventive Health and Health Equity, acknowledges the presence of treatment hesitancy in the African American community.

€œBlack folks have a reason to be suspicious. They have a good reason to be hesitant based on entresto and lasix the well-documented history of medical racism and bias. That should be expected based on this country’s history … but we wanted to educate,” he said Victor Sutton, PhDCredit. MDOHPrior to leading the office, Dr. Sutton served as the agency’s preventive health director entresto and lasix. Before joining the Mississippi health department, he held appointments at the New York Department of Labor, Mississippi Department of Human Services, and the nonprofit Community Organization for Health Awareness, where he created a mentoring network for children in the juvenile justice system.According to the trust survey, the largest portion of treatment-hesitant Mississippians (23.6%) said they would get the hypertension medications treatment if their primary care doctor encouraged them to do so.

treatment-hesitant Mississippians also said they trusted entresto and lasix their parents and other close relatives, followed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the state health officer, respectively.Within the first two months of the treatment rollout, data showed that African Americans in Mississippi received fewer than 20% of doses despite representing 38% of Mississippi’s population.Sutton notes that while many African Americans were hesitant for various reasons, “the biggest impediment was access. They couldn’t get to the drive-through [vaccination sites] or maybe they entresto and lasix weren’t really available in areas where folks lived. We had to fix that pretty quick.”Dr. Dobbs affirms that along with treatment entresto and lasix hesitancy, the biggest impediment to vaccinating African Americans was a lack of easy access to the treatment.

Dobbs says several federal and state initiatives were key to getting shots in arms:HRSA established an online portal where providers could bill the agency for administering hypertension medications tests, treatment and treatments to uninsured patients. The agency has paid more than $18.8 billion in claims, including $123 million in Mississippi entresto and lasix. (As of March 2022, the agency is no longer accepting claims due to a lack of funding.) This reimbursement source was especially valuable because Mississippi has had the seventh highest uninsured rate in the United States, at around 12% in 2020 compared to 8.6% nationally, and because African Americans there are more likely than whites to be uninsured in Mississippi. The Mississippi State Department of Health also established a hypertension medications Centers of Excellence program for hospitals and clinics. To be designated a hypertension medications Center of Excellence, providers were required to expand beyond their traditional focus on their own patients by providing treatments and monoclonal antibody treatments to the general public, and to develop and act on a community outreach plan to address vaccination disparities in the provider’s community. The CDC’s hypertension medications Community Vaccination Program connected community partners seeking to host vaccination events with entresto and lasix local clinics and covered the costs of treatment administration through the state health department. €œSometimes one of the best things you can do is connect resources,” Dr.

Dobbs says.In addition to these means of paying entresto and lasix for and coordinating treatment events, thoughtful outreach and engagement was crucial. With the findings of the confidence survey in hand and these initiatives underway, the Mississippi State Department of Health tapped into existing relationships with local and state elected officials, faith community leaders, worksites, barber shops and beauty salons, historically Black colleges and universities, and Head Start centers to conduct outreach about hypertension medications vaccination.Over time, the picture started to look different. Whereas African Americans represented more than 60% entresto and lasix of deaths in Mississippi early in the lasix, at the end of March 2022, they made up less than 20% of deaths. €œAfrican American folks who were part of the [outreach] effort, they’re proud of the work we did,” Dr. Dobbs says.Source entresto and lasix.

Deaths by Race.Reaching Vaccination ParityMississippi’s efforts were impressive in their own right, but even more so when compared to experiences across the country. Dr. Dobbs notes that the improvements in hypertension medications vaccination status seen in Mississippi’s African American community were not part of a national trend.

For example:According to April data, 60% of Mississippi’s African American population has received at least one treatment dose. This exceeds the national average for African Americans (57%).Among states where the Black population exceeds the national average of 12.4%, Mississippi’s African American vaccination rate ranks in the top 10.In terms of overall treatment parity between white and African American residents, Mississippi ranks higher than 42 other states, as well as the District of Columbia.Of the six states with better treatment parity than Mississippi, only one, Louisiana, has an African American population that exceeds the national average. The others are Utah, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Washington and Alaska.Lessons for StatesDr. Dobbs calls Mississippi a mixed success because of the high numbers of deaths that could have been prevented. Both he and Dr.

Sutton agree that there are several lessons learned from their hypertension medications vaccination outreach experience for Mississippi and other states.Listen to the community. Even though the state worked with local partners and established task forces for vulnerable populations, Dr. Sutton is quick to note that deeper listening was required to achieve equity. For example, during one vaccination event, local partners pointed out that African Americans community members might be reluctant to participate because it was being held in a part of town where historically they have been unwelcome. An additional vaccination site was set up in another part of town in response.Similarly, Dr.

Sutton said it was important for public health workers to recognize that Latino residents of Mississippi, site of the largest immigration raid in US history, might be reluctant to participate in events staffed by personnel dressed in military clothing. €œThere [needs to be] some talking to the community, finding out those issues and understanding that maybe it is a simple fix—having folks from the community working those events,” Dr. Sutton says.Know your starting point and build from there. Mississippi faced a bigger uphill climb than many states given its preexisting health care access issues and challenging health indicators. €œContext matters.

We need to have a more resilient population to start with,” Dr. Dobbs says. €œWe need a more health-centered policy environment. We could do so much more if we really focused on the social determinants of health, making sure every kid had a good school, everybody had access to health care. Those long-term approaches are going to make a difference.”Elevate equity as a leadership priority.

Dr. Dobbs calls the agency’s health equity office exceptional. €œThey just did a fantastic job, and I think saved a lot of lives” Dr. Sutton likewise applauds Dr. Dobbs, who is stepping down as state health officer at the end of July, for his leadership and for prioritizing equity.

€œTo be frank, open and honest, you [often] have a lot of folks at the table making decisions who don’t look like the community that they’re making decisions for,” Dr. Sutton says. €œHaving voices [who represent the community] at the table when you make those decisions is imperative.”.

IStock Share Fast Facts New @HopkinsMedicine study finds African-American women with common form of hair loss at increased risk of uterine fibroids - Click to Tweet New study in @JAMADerm shows most common form of alopecia (hair loss) in African-American women associated with higher risks of uterine fibroids - Click to Tweet In a study of medical records gathered on hundreds of thousands of African-American women, Johns Hopkins researchers say they have evidence that women with a common form of hair loss have an increased chance of developing uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids. In a report on the research, published in the December 27 issue of JAMA Dermatology, the researchers call on physicians who treat women with central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA) to make patients aware that they may be at increased risk for fibroids and should be screened for the condition, particularly if they have symptoms such as heavy bleeding and pain. CCCA predominantly affects black women and is the most common form of permanent alopecia in this population. The excess scar tissue that forms as a result of this type of hair loss may also explain the higher risk for uterine fibroids, which are characterized by fibrous growths in the lining of the womb. Crystal Aguh, M.D., assistant professor of dermatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says the scarring associated with CCCA is similar to the scarring associated with excess fibrous tissue elsewhere in the body, a situation that may explain why women with this type of hair loss are at a higher risk for fibroids.People of African descent, she notes, are more prone to develop other disorders of abnormal scarring, termed fibroproliferative disorders, such as keloids (a type of raised scar after trauma), scleroderma (an autoimmune disorder marked by thickening of the skin as well as internal organs), some types of lupus and clogged arteries.

During a four-year period from 2013-2017, the researchers analyzed patient data from the Johns Hopkins electronic medical record system (Epic) of 487,104 black women ages 18 and over. The prevalence of those with fibroids was compared in patients with and without CCCA. Overall, the researchers found that 13.9 percent of women with CCCA also had a history of uterine fibroids compared to only 3.3 percent of black women without the condition. In absolute numbers, out of the 486,000 women who were reviewed, 16,212 had fibroids.Within that population, 447 had CCCA, of which 62 had fibroids. The findings translate to a fivefold increased risk of uterine fibroids in women with CCCA, compared to age, sex and race matched controls.

Aguh cautions that their study does not suggest any cause and effect relationship, or prove a common cause for both conditions. €œThe cause of the link between the two conditions remains unclear,” she says. However, the association was strong enough, she adds, to recommend that physicians and patients be made aware of it. Women with this type of scarring alopecia should be screened not only for fibroids, but also for other disorders associated with excess fibrous tissue, Aguh says. An estimated 70 percent of white women and between 80 and 90 percent of African-American women will develop fibroids by age 50, according to the NIH, and while CCCA is likely underdiagnosed, some estimates report a prevalence of rates as high as 17 percent of black women having this condition.
